Monday was spent banging out the ceiling in the Family Room. It actually came together quicker than I thought it would. I also got the tools put away, clutter picked up, vacuumed, and wiped down the walls with the good ole’ swiffer.
This morning I will get accurate measurements for carpet and begin the shopping fun for carpet. I’ve also got a trip to Ikea planned for Friday for some bookcase and desk shopping.

As always… the complete Basement Project gallery of images has been updated. It can be viewed here. 469 images in total… wow!

Even though the weather was really sweet outside this past weekend, I wasn’t in the mood to be outside (another story) so I spent some good time downstairs and have started the final push to finish the basement. The main rec. room is now underway. I spent considerable time just clearing out the clutter that seems to magically appear when a room isn’t completely finished as it seems to become a storage area. After the clearing, I got out all of the supplies to pickup the work on the drop ceiling and then continued the work on the ceiling. I have the majority of the full sized tiles in place (all except 3) and now that remains is cutting and placing all of the partial tiles around the outer edge. I also picked up 13 BR30 Flood lamps and installed them into all of the can lights down there. Previously there was standard 60w bulbs down there.
Furniture waiting… I purchased the old furniture from Sara a few weeks ago, so I do have a couch, loveseat, coffee table, two end tables and a magazine rack waiting to go down there. I also made a list of furniture that I will pick up from Ikea once the carpet is in.
Carpet! I also need to pickup some carpet samples for the main area. I’ve decided to go a little bit darker than the light beige color I installed in the office. High traffic and kids do go well together. :)
I would love to have the ceiling and carpet installed by the end of October but that may be a bit aggressive… but who knows.

The Basement office is now nearly complete! The carpet was installed this morning. What now remains are re-installing the closet doors and installing the closet wire racking. Of course adding back in the furniture is high on the list as well.

Basement Office - Concrete Leveled
Last weekend I leveled a slope to the concrete in the corner of the Office. The slope was initially placed into the floor to slope it down to the sump pump opening. Since I boxed around the sump opening pretty tightly there was a section that was still reveled the slope down to the sump opening.
I used a product from Mapei designed to level concrete floors prior to putting down ceramic tile.
I am happy with the results… I now have the carpet for the room on order and with a little luck it will be installed next week.

After a 14 month break from action, the Basement Project has resumed.
When last actively worked on in October 07, I had recently completed the Bathroom and Bedroom.
Now I am focusing on the Office area… Just after Christmas, my good friend Ben came over and we trimmed out the room together. Over the last two weeks, Scott Cramer of Image Painters did our trim work justice by sealing and spraying the trim and then rolling the walls. I am now cutting the few remaining partial ceiling tiles to complete the drop ceiling. After the ceiling is complete (this week), I hope to have carpet put down in pretty short order.
Once the office is complete the only remaining rooms will be the large Recreation room and hallway to the office. The work remaining in both will be the cutting of the partial ceiling panels and then carpet will need to be purchased (costly) and put down!
